We do not perform surgery.

When surgery or highly complex treatment is needed, we refer you to a major university hospital, then take over the recovery and long-term care here.

We do not have as many departments as a university hospital.

Tests and diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation, admission and recovery continue unbroken inside one building. You do not rebook and wait to reach the next department.

Our checkup floors are not as large as a big checkup center’s.

They are not. That is why we spend longer with each person.

History

Thirty-two years,
built in the same place.

Western and Korean medicine opened their doors together from day one, and we have never moved. Along the way we have, step by step, brought the two practices into one hospital and linked it with university hospitals.

  1. 1994.04Kwangdong Korean Medicine Hospital and Kwangdong Clinic openThe Korean medicine hospital and the clinic opened on the same day. Western and Korean medicine were together from the start.
  2. 1994.09Gasan Medical Foundation approvedA medical foundation of the Kwangdong Pharmaceutical group. Construction of the current building in Samseong-dong began the same year.
  3. 1999.10Designated a residency training hospital for Korean medicineDesignated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, following designation as a specialist training hospital in 1998.
  4. 2000.08Medical partnership with Seoul St. Mary’s HospitalThe first of our university hospital partnerships. Gangnam Severance Hospital followed in 2004.
  5. 2007.10Korean–Western collaborative care center introducedTwo practices seeing one patient together became an established system.
  6. 2009.07Registered to receive international patientsThe beginning of today's Global Checkup Center and Global VIP Desk.
  7. 2015.01Kwangdong Clinic merged into Kwangdong Korean Medicine HospitalWithin one foundation, Western and Korean medicine became a single hospital.
  8. 2024.0430th anniversary · Center renewalThe Global Health Checkup Center reopened in March, the pain rehabilitation and Korean medicine centers in April. Partnership with Samsung Medical Center in July.
  9. 2025.03Dr. Sang-Heon Cho appointed Hospital DirectorFormer director of Seoul National University Hospital Gangnam Center. Gastroenterology and neurology physicians joined the same month.
  10. 2025.07Partnership with Seoul National University Hospital Gangnam CenterSurgery and highly complex treatment at the university hospital; recovery and ongoing care back here.
